This is my first year post grad and I have learned and grown so much. I turned 23 at the beginning of June and feel like such a different person than who I was even a year ago. I could go on and on about the lessons I learned in the past year, let alone 23 years, but here are my top ones…
- You don’t have to be the best at something to want to do it and like doing it
- This is every person’s first time on Earth too — show people grace, especially your parents
- Your all or nothing personality isn’t a flaw, you just have to figure out how to use it to your benefit
- Your life is not your own if you constantly care what other people think — try to block out those fears and insecurities and do what feels aligned
- Therapy helps you progress and grow much faster than on your own
- Take time to intentionally reflect on yourself — it’s so important to understand yourself and where you need a little extra love
- You won’t meet new people if you don’t enter new spaces and stay open
- Supporting other people’s accomplishments doesn’t diminish your own journey
- Relationships are hard — stay open and vulnerable, that’s how you stay connected
- Understand your finances, set budgets, and review them often
- It’s okay to spend money on experiences and things that will make you happy
- You have nothing if you don’t have your health
- Fitness is an every revolving journey — find what you enjoy and what makes you feel good
- Once you focus on your performance and less on your looks, your fitness changes and the way you think about it changes
- Whatever you do to your body, do it out of love — that goes for what you eat, what you drink, what you think, what you say, etc.
- You will probably go back to what you did as a kid — those hobbies spoke to your soul then and speak to it now
- Enjoy where you are now — nothing will be perfect, but don’t spend your time always wishing to be somewhere else
- You can do everything you want, just not all at once — you have to prioritize and be okay with goals getting delayed
- Everything happens in its own time — you may want to rush things but it will come when it’s meant for you
- You can be grateful for the good in your life and still want more or something else
- You are capable of anything you set your mind to
- Don’t get stuck in the mundane routine of work — intentionally plan things to do that bring you joy
- There will always be more work to do — make sure you stop to take care of you
Graduating college, moving out, moving in with my boyfriend, starting a new job — it’s been a wild ride. Cheers to the lessons learned and the many more to come!
